WOMEN'S GYMNASTICS

For 4 years old and up, gymnasts train on 4 apparatus – Vault, Asymmetric Bars, Beam and Floor.

Leeds has a proud tradition in Women’s Artistic Gymnastics with two Olympians who later turned their talents to coaching and choreography for the club. In addition, Great Britain has made huge strides in the last decade to become a world power in gymnastics competing alongside the traditionally strong nations of Russia, China, Romania and the U.S. led by the likes of Beth Tweddle and Hannah Whelan, so there’s never been a better time to get involved in gymnastics.

NOTABLE ACHIEVEMENTS

2016 – Women’s British Espoir Championships – Shanna Kae-Grant, Vault Champion

2017 – Women’s English Championships – Shanna Kae-Grant, All Around Champion, Vault Gold and Floor Bronze

2021 – Women’s British Junior Championships – Mercedes Moore, Vault silver and Floor bronze

2022 – Women’s Senior British Team Championships – British Champions (non squad category), 3rd place over all

Marjorie Carter Double Olympian – 1952 Helsinki Olympics and Rome 1960, Girls Head Coach for City of Leeds Gymnastics at the Leeds Athletic Institute.

Kathy Williams – Olympian 1984

Rebecca Hall – represented GB at the World Universiade, 2011 in China

Shanna Kae-Grant – English Espoir Champion 2017, British Espoir Vault Champion 2016, 45th International Leverkusen Cup 2nd AA, 2023 British Championships Floor Finalist and 4th place, World Student Games 2025

Keira Thornton – British Championships 2022 Vault Finalist, British Championships 2023 Vault Bronze, Beam Finalist, Bowling Green State University Scholar

Women’s Artistic Gymnastics is an Olympic sport. Girls from the age of 4 years are selected from our Gymnastics for All programme to train, competing from around 6 years of age. Girls gymnastics teaches grace and dance as well as building flexibility and strength. Girls train and compete on 4 different apparatus, the Vault, Asymmetric Bars, Beam and Floor.
